Scene to Stats: Pyke Syndicate Foot Soldiers

“I have no desire to oppose you. We come to join you.”
–Lom Pyke, Star Wars™: The Clone Wars

The Pyke Syndicate is known throughout the galaxy for their domination of the raw spice trade. Originating in the underworld of the planet Oba Diah, the Pyke Syndicate grew in power as they obtained more and more territory. This expansion continued throughout the Clone Wars as they gained control of the mining planet Kessel. The Pykes joined Maul in the Shadow Collective and played a critical role in allowing the Death Watch to rise to power during the civil war on Mandalore. Such rapid expansion requires muscle, and the Pyke Syndicate’s Foot Soldiers are here to ensure that shipments of spice–and the credits they create–keep flowing. Join us in this installment of Scene to Stats, as we take a look at the Pyke Syndicate Foot Soldiers in Star Wars™: Legion!

Pyke Syndicate Foot Soldiers have a variety of tools at their disposal. Like some Mercenary units, the Pykes benefit from a new ability in the form of Independent: Dodge 1. This defensive spin on the Independent keyword will help the Pyke Syndicate Foot Soldiers ward off incoming fire as they accomplish their mission. It pairs well with Outmaneuver, which allows the unit to spend their dodge tokens to cancel critical results. Always on the lookout for threats to their lucrative spice trade, Danger Sense 2 further increases their incredible survivability. But be sure to keep these units near their Capo as Self-Preservation kicks in, which only lets them use the courage of other Pyke Syndicate units for panic checks.

Their martial skills are well reflected in the Pyke Syndicate Foot Soldier’s abilities, but the upgrades that the unit can equip offer even more. Offensively, Pyke Syndicate Foot Soldiers are equipped with the P13 Long Blaster and a Stun Baton. These give them the flexibility to hang back and support the rest of the army with their ranged weapons or get in close and swarm the enemy in melee. But these are not the only implements the Pyke corps bring to the table. If you are looking for an increase in ranged firepower, consider adding a P13-M Disruptor Soldier to the unit. This heavy weapon upgrade adds some serious punch at long range, as well as Impact 1 to more effectively engage armored targets. When you need to pin an enemy in place, the Electro-Whip Soldier has you covered. A potent combination of Immobilize 1 and Suppressive ensures that the enemies of the Pyke Syndicate won’t slip through their fingers.

The Pykes also have access to new upgrades to increase their lethality on the battlefield. The Pyke Syndicate Foot Soldier gives the unit access to Cache: Aim 1. This allows them to start the game with an aim token and spend it when it’s most needed. If more direct supervision is required, the unit can instead equip a Pyke Syndicate Capo, adding Independent: Surge 1 to the unit card and increasing their courage by 1.

Finally, the Pyke Syndicate Foot Soldiers can also equip a new generic gear upgrade, Prepared Supplies. This adds Cache: Dodge 1 to the unit which, when combined with their native Independent: Dodge 1 and Outmaneuver, make Pyke Syndicate Foot Soldiers exceptionally good at staying out of harm’s way.
