Announcing Two Commander Expansions for Star Wars: Legion

“We adapt, or die.”

Some Rebel and Imperial commanders prefer to match wits with their adversaries on the open field as they deftly maneuver their troops around the battlefields of the Galactic Civil War. Others take a more clandestine approach, leading daring raids deep in enemy territory or operating independently to accomplish their objectives. Now two elite agents and their loyal companions are on their way to take command of any operation.

Fantasy Flight Games is happy to announce two new expansions for Star Wars™: Legion:

Whether they’re leading an entire army or operating as a covert strike team alongside their droid companions, these versatile commanders can quickly adapt to almost any battlefield situation. What’s more, four new command cards allow them each to use even more of their special training, inviting you to further tailor your strategies to fit their unique skill sets.

Spy, Saboteur, Assassin

Cassian Andor has dedicated his life to the Rebellion and his resolute belief in its cause makes him willing to do whatever it takes to complete his mission. As one of the Alliance’s most capable intelligence agents, Andor is well-versed in infiltration and intelligence-gathering techniques, but he can still take a quick Crack Shot at an enemy whether he’s carrying a covert blaster or a sniper rifle. At the same time, Andor’s leadership abilities cannot be denied, and he can just as easily lead an entire army of Rebels into battle regardless of how hopeless their task may seem.

While the nature of Andor’s missions can make it difficult to operate alongside large groups of his fellow Rebels, a reprogrammed KX-series security droid like K-2SO has no such issues. Able to seamlessly blend in with Imperial forces until he’s ready to unleash his massive strength and quick reflexes on his foes, K-2 can help Andor in any situation.

Within the Cassian Andor and K-2SO Commander Expansion, you’ll find beautifully detailed, unpainted, hard plastic Cassian Andor and K-2SO miniatures that feature a wealth of customization options. Cassian Andor, for example, can be assembled with three different weapon options, including his compact blaster or his A-280-CFE in its pistol configuration. K-2SO, meanwhile, can be assembled carrying Jyn Erso’s SE-14 blaster, a grenade, or with his hands free.

Finally, this expansion also contains four new command cards—three for Cassian Andor and one for K-2SO—as well as Cassian Andor and K-2SO’s unit cards and nine upgrade cards that let you outfit this pair with additional weapons, gear, and more.

Servant of the Empire

They may be taking the fight to the Rebellion in space or on the ground, but in any arena, Inferno Squad is one of the Empire’s most elite special forces units. As the leader of this crack team, Iden Versio has the experience necessary to lead any Imperial attack group into battle. But Versio’s training at the Imperial Academy on Coruscant has also made her an invaluable asset who can strike out on her own to complete whatever directives the Empire gives her.

Whichever way Versio is deployed, she enters battle supported by the latest Imperial technology. With a quick Pulse Scan,  her ID10 seeker droid can identify multiple targets and enhance her already keen aim. While its range may be limited, this seeker droid can also make attacks of its own, sometimes even incapacitating an entire enemy unit.

The Iden Versio and ID10 Commander Expansioncontains beautifully sculpted, unpainted hard plastic Iden Versio and ID10 seeker droid miniatures that can be instantly integrated into your Imperial armies. As you do, the Iden Versio miniature can be customized with an assortment of head and weapon options to fit your personal taste. This miniature can be assembled with or without the Inferno Squad helmet and can can also appear with three distinct weapons, including the standard issue E-11 blaster rifle or Versio’s personal TL-50 repeater.

Rounding out this expansion are four new command cards—three for Iden Versio and one for her ID10 seeker droid—along with unit cards for both Versio and ID10. Finally, nine upgrade cards invite you to customize their loadouts with more weapons, comms, and more.

Preview the Darth Vader Operative Expansion for Star Wars: Legion

The dark side of the Force corrupts all that it touches, twisting those who practice it into shells of their former selves. Such is the case with Anakin Skywalker. Once known as one of the strongest Jedi in the entire galaxy, Skywalker was seduced by the dark side and became an agent of evil determined to eliminate the last vestiges of his former order.

Now known as Darth Vader, Skywalker has become more machine than man as he scours the galaxy in an attempt to snuff out the embers of Rebellion. Soon, you’ll be able to harness his dark power on the battlefields of Star Wars™: Legion with the Darth Vader Operative Expansion!

The Emperor’s Apprentice

Despite Darth Vader’s great power, he is merely an apprentice to the true power in the galaxy: Emperor Palpatine. Dispatched to do the Emperor’s bidding across the galaxy, Vader will not rest until his master’s will has been carried out. Rather than command Imperial troops on the battlefield, then, this version of Darth Vader is more focused on personally eliminating any who would question the Emperor’s authority.

A central tenet of this plan is the eradication of any remaining Jedi Knights, a task Darth Vader particularly relishes. Relentlessly pursuing Force users to the far corners of the galaxy, Vader uses his hatred of the Jedi to make even deadlier strikes against them. While Vader’s lightsaber attacks don’t have quite the same damage potential as his counterpart in the Core Set, a combatant of Darth Vader’s stature is sure to draw enemy fire and, with a little Tenacity, this gap can be easily bridged.

But Darth Vader does not rely on his lightsaber alone. To him, the Force itself is a weapon. When his opponents are out of reach of his lightsaber, he can simply throw them with the Force as a ranged attack. Such an attack can deal damage, of course, but it has other advantages as well. Rather than randomly slamming his opponents to the ground, Vader can strategically place all the non-leader minis in a small base trooper unit after performing a Force throw, potentially pulling them out of cover and leaving them vulnerable to further attack.

A Force throw is just one example of how Darth Vader can benefit your entire army without directly commanding troops. With three new command cards to enhance his already prodigious skills, he can unleash the power of the dark side. Darth Vader’s mere presence on a battlefield is enough to fill enemy troops with Fear, but as this Darkness Descends upon a combat zone, Vader becomes even more prepared to fight. If it’s the opening stages of the battle, he can make his presence felt even more strongly, quickly advancing on enemy positions and forcing them into a confrontation with the Dark Lord of the Sith.

Not one to shy away from the front lines, Vader can always spur himself forward into the fray and with sufficient Endurance, he has little to worry from suppression tokens. If such an assault isn’t enough to demoralize opposing forces, perhaps witnessing the extent of Vader’s Might will be. With this card, Darth Vader can use his power to displace an entire unit, potentially putting a friendly unit in a more advantageous position—or pulling in an enemy so he can finish them off.

Even if the enemy thinks they have gained the upper hand on Vader, they will quickly discover that he is only surrounded by Fear and Dead Men.  This card gives him an even better chance of dealing damage as he deflects incoming blaster fire, making enemy units carefully consider whether they want to target him.

The path of a Jedi is difficult. One must sacrifice much if they hope to become a master of the Force and fully commit themself to peace and tranquility if they are to resist the sway of the dark side. This is especially true of Luke Skywalker, who not only endeavored to become a Jedi during an era when the order had been all but exterminated, but who also had to confront the legacy of evil granted by his father, the infamous Darth Vader.

Legacy of the Force

Over the course of the Star Wars saga, Luke Skywalker has evolved from a farmboy on the backwater planet of Tatooine to hero of the Rebellion and, finally, powerful Jedi Knight. As he has made this progression, he has also transitioned from field commander leading Rebel attacks to a solitary figured focused on developing his skills with the Force. It should be no surprise, then, that the more experienced Luke Skywalker found in this Operative Expansion takes a different approach to combat than the plucky blossoming Force user found in the Star Wars: Legion Core Set.

Once wielding both his father’s lightsaber and his own DL-44 blaster pistol, the new version of Luke Skywalker now focuses solely on melee combat with a lightsaber. But Skywalker has honed his skills with this weapon, becoming a true force to be reckoned with. Not only has he shown his worthiness of the title of Jedi Knight by constructing his own lightsaber, this version of Luke Skywalker is also more proficient with the weapon and has even greater potential for dealing damage.

A lightsaber is a powerful weapon capable of dealing devastating damage to almost any target, but a true Jedi only uses their skills to defend themselves from agressive foes. As a result, the Operative version of Luke Skywalker continues to be able to use their blade to deflect incoming blaster fire that would otherwise pierce through his defenses. But a trained Jedi also knows when to break off a fight and Luke Skywalker can now disengage from a single enemy unit that may be stalling his progress or blocking his escape. 

Beyond its obvious benefits in combat, Skywalker’s deepening understanding of the Force has not only broadened the potential ways he can use the Force during a battle, it also means that he can use these abilities more frequently. Far from simply enhancing himself, Luke Skywalker can call upon the power of the Force to aid the entire Rebel army. If he lets the Force flow through him into his fellow troops, he can help  guide  the actions of others, even those who do not share his Force sensitivity.

This isn’t the only way that Luke Skywalker can contribute to your overall strategy, of course. In addition to growing more powerful in the Force, the rigors of Jedi training have toughened him and made him all the more courageous. When they meet on the battlefield, then, enemies often find that Skywalker is  Full of Surprises  and can escape seemingly impossible situations. 

At the same time, a Jed Knight like Luke Skywalker can use the Force to influence the weak-minded, bending them to his will. While this power can be used on Skywalker’s fellow Rebels to grant them extra moves and attacks, he can also use it to give the enemy army a new master to serve,  potentially convincing them to attack members of their own army. Similarly, a Jedi must learn to control their aggression, and if Luke Skywalker resists the urge to give into ange r, he can prevent nearby enemy troopers from attacking as well.

Shipping Now: Sabine, Bossk, and the Down AT-ST

The Sabine and Bossk Operative Expansions along with the Down AT-ST status have been switched to “Shipping Now” on the Fantasy Flight Games USA website.

Though the US status page is notoriously unreliable, usually once the status has be changed to “Shipping Now” that means the items will be on store shelves in two weeks time.

So it looks like the US will finally be getting their shipment of Down AT-STs along side Sabine and Bossk on June 27th.
