Never Tell Me the Odds: Rebel Commandos – Saboteurs

This is part two of the Rebel Commandos article series.  This article focuses on Proton Charge Saboteurs; the sniper article can be found here: Rebel Commandos – Sniper

The format of this article will be a little different, since the full squad and strike team play differently but share the same weapon upgrade.  First we’ll hit some high level pros and cons common to both versions of Commando saboteurs, then we’ll look at the proton charge stats.  Lastly, we’ll look at the differences between the full squad and strike team, and some tactics.

Note: Endless at Yavinbase also has a great article on Commandos generally, which you can find here: Databank – Rebel Commandos

Also, I want to credit Rick Stegich for many of these tips.  Rick is a solid saboteur player who earned an Adepticon invite at the Michigan GT with a triple saboteur list.

Pros

  • Can get in cover more easily
  • Courage 2 means usually getting both actions
  • Proton charges are excellent for area denial
  • You get to blow stuff up (usually)

Cons

  • Fragile for cost
  • Spec ops slot reduces activation control
  • Saboteurs are defensive units; a high bid and turn 0 are very important
  • Need to be run in twos or threes to be effective

Lets get to the blowing stuff up bit.

Yavin Base: Databank: Rebel Commandos

sw legion rebel commando art

Commandos are the Rebellion’s elite infantry, both in function and in price. They require cagey, conservative play to be maximally effective. The first Special Forces unit available to the Rebellion, Rebel Commandos can be taken in two modes, either in a four model squad or a two model Strike Team. This article will cover both modalities, so strap in, it’s a long one. Subtlety will be rewarded!

Never Tell Me the Odds Blog: Rebel Commandos – Snipers

Snipers and saboteurs will be in separate articles, since they play so differently.

The format of this article will be a little different, since the full squad and strike team play differently but share the same weapon upgrade.  First we’ll hit some high level pros and cons common to both versions of Commando snipers, then we’ll look at the sniper rifle stats and some data-informed decisions.  Lastly, we’ll look at the differences between the full squad and strike team, and some tactics for each.

Pros

  • Can get in cover more easily
  • Sharpshooter allows more hits through cover
  • Courage 2 means usually getting both actions
  • Pierce is the shizzle
  • Unlimited range Pierce is the fo-shizzle (that’s more than shizzle, right?  Or is that my nizzle?)

Cons

  • Fragile for cost
  • Spec ops slot reduces activation control

The stock commandos feel very much like elite Rebel Troopers.  You probably aren’t taking them naked, though.  Indeed, this article is all about snipers, so lets move on to the weapon.

Impact X: Rebel Commando – Strike Team: Unit Analysis

Rebel Commandos are the rebel special forces, better trained and prepared than their infantry counterparts. They are trained and equipped to be self-sufficient in their role on the battlefield. The strike team deploys in a squad of two men focused primarily on the special weapon they bring to the engagement. In Star Wars: Legion the Rebel Commandos are the Rebels first elite unit option. Their training and equipment make them self-sufficient and versatile in many different roles – and as such see specialized use in the Rebel forces.
