Peña Launches the Legion Tournament Circuit

LJ Peña posted on Discord earlier today:

“Hello there! I am excited to formally announce the Legion Tournament Circuit (https://legiontournamentcircuit.com/) The goal of the Legion Tournament Circuit is to create a standardized approach to running Star Wars: Legion tournaments to ensure a professional standard of Organized Play events. Players can use our free resources to enhance your Legion tournaments. The LTC provides best practices, terrain guides, and other useful tools to run Star Wars: Legion tournaments and events. You will eventually be able to submit their local communities as well, so players struggling to find a LGS or just looking for somewhere to play on a business trip can connect. Thanks in advance to anyone that is able to use our resources, and I look forward to what comes next with this awesome community we have!

Yavin Base Blog: Ground Sliding, Part 1

The X-34 Landspeeder: Iconic, regconizeable, expensive. Luke’s ride from A New Hope makes its appearance in Legion as a space jeep with guns bolted on.

When the Landspeeder was released, I was highly skeptical. As I mentioned in the first article I wrote about the X-34, Rebel players as a whole had been burned by the inefficient and ineffective T-47 in the Heavy role. I vowed to remain a skeptic until I had seen it in action on the table. I can happily say that, after playing five or so games with the X-34, I have warmed to it quickly and find it to be the most fun unit the Rebel faction can currently field. This multi-part series, “Ground Sliding,” is meant as a tutorial and an encouragement to try out this very fun and unique unit in your Rebel lists. In this first part, we’ll discuss why you might include a Landspeeder in your army, and how functional the craft is at its spiciest feature: transporting! Continue reading →

Imperial Tank & Rebel Landspeeder Now Available

TX-225 GAVw Occupier Combat Assault Tank Unit Expansion

For the Galactic Empire, conquering a planet is only the beginning of the battle. Massive vehicles like AT-STs and elite shock troops like Imperial Death Troopers may be effective at sweeping across battlefields and capturing new territory, but they rarely stick around to hold this ground. A TX-225 GAVw Occupier Combat Assault Tank, however, is more than enough to quell any resistance to Imperial occupation.

NTMtO Blog: Sabotaging the Meta – Daniel Lupo

This week we welcome guest writer Daniel Lupo, who won an invite to worlds by going 3-1 at High Command with a list featuring three saboteur strike teams (no snipers!).  Lupo made waves with his skillful and surprising saboteur play.

Sabotaging the Meta

Sabine Wren: “You know what I do in hopeless situations?”

Zeb Orrelios: [laughs] “Yeah, blow stuff up!”

I have been almost exclusively running lists featuring Saboteurs since roughly August 2018, in local tournaments as well as at LVO and Adepticon. These lists have all been focused on squeezing maximum efficiency out of the triple strike team Saboteurs.  I have experimented with full Saboteur squads, but I realized I was almost never shooting their guns I was paying a premium for, and you can make a strike team nearly as survivable with medics, stims, and corner peeking.

Legion is a game of taking territory and of maximizing and balancing your activations.  Well run Saboteurs do this extremely well.

My list for Adepticon:http://tabletopadmiral.com/legion/rebel/p0bu1au2cuEMp04u09u0au2bp06u10u40uEMuEMp06u10u40uEMuEMp06u10uEMuEMuEMp0cu1fu31u25uEMp06uEMuEMuEMuEMp0eu30uEMuEMu2buEMp0eu30uEMuEMu2buEMp0eu30uEMuEMu2buEMc08c02c06c0bc0dc12c13o00o01o02o03z00z02z03z04t00t01t02t04

Luke, Leia, a maxed out fleet trooper squad with officer, two medics, one objective holding rebel trooper squad and the triple Saboteurs.

Each part of the list was built around holding ground and keeping my opponent from advancing on my half of the board.

Adam Pitzer wrote on Facebook: “3d printed these for the store so we can have a fun map based campaign. We have some more casual players who are less interested in leagues and tournaments and another nearby store has that covered.

Let me know if anyone is interested in the stl files.

Star Wars Miniatures Battles – Third Edition

A long time ago in a decade far, far away before Star Wars Legion took over all of our lives there was the West End Games Star Wars Miniatures Battles Game.

Maximum Annihilation: Krennic vs Veers

Krennic_vs_Veers_tkdjiq.png

It’s Thursday night Legion night at my FLGS Games Cube. Fresh from lots of spacemen pew pew at ANZAC Cup, I lined up another game with my mate Damo.

I’ve just finished painting my Imperial Royal Guard, and was pretty keen to give them a spin. I dropped a few things (Snowtroopers, Comms Tech) from my ANZAC Cup list in order to fit the IRG in. Damo took a Krennic, Deathtrooper and AT-ST list which is quite different to anything I’ve faced so far. This should be fun!

Speculation: Future Imperial Units?

With the forthcoming Clone Wars core set I’m intrigued with how the current factions of the Empire, and the Rebellion will interact with the two new factions. What’s interesting is that these factions shouldn’t have answers for each other because they never actually faced each other in a star war. But in terms of the game they will need to have answers as they will frequently be going head to head with the CIS and the Republic.

Currently the Imperial faction is built to represent their presence during Galactic Civil War and their struggle with the Rebel Alliance. The advent of the Republic faction gives FFG the opportunity to dive backwards on the timeline during the Dark Times era and release units that will be more suited in fighting lightsaber wielding Jedi.

I believe it’s a safe bet that we’ll see the release of the Inquisitors and Purge Troopers as Imperial counters to the Republic faction’s Jedi. Though it’s highly unlikely we’ll ever see Imperial Clone Troopers or a pre Cyborg Darth Vader, it would be interesting if they eventually made an Order 66 scenario.

What do you think? Do you agree that we’ll likely see Dark Times/Jedi Purge units hit the streets Q4 of this year or Q1 of next year? How do you think they’ll balance the Rebellion vs the Republic? Or do you think Luke and Sabine are enough to combatant full fledge Jedi? With that being said, I’m 100% sure we won’t see Jedi swarm as they’ll most likely be too expensive. So an Obi Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka list might not be feasible.

Just some thoughts, let me know what you think in the comments.
