The Fifth Trooper: When Death Troopers come knocking: Why my Star Wars Legion list has changed

If you have listened to our podcast The Fifth Trooper or our sister cast Notorious Scoundrels, you know that since January I have been running a 12-activation list that I loved. It didn’t have any heroes; it didn’t have any truly costly units; it was just a wall of units coming down at you (if you haven’t heard of it or need a refresher it is to the right).

I loved this list for several reasons:

  • Activation Control: I had 12 activations, generally I could count on having at least 2 more than most opponents I faced.
  • Blue Bid: It had a 5 pt bid. 90% of the time this meant I was going to be blue player.
  • Low Cost Units: The costliest unit I had in the list were the Royal Guard. That was it. So, the fear of losing a centerpiece unit was not a factor. Continue reading →

Bothan Report: Creating Scarif Bases for your Legion Units

One of the most exciting parts of painting miniatures for me is creating a compelling base for the miniatures that really puts the icing on the proverbial cake when it comes to presentation.

Since my Warhammer days I have always been fascinated by some of the creativity I saw with bases and while the default base back in the early 90’s was simply static grass or green flock I always thought there was more you could do. Game Workshop was always my guiding inspiration when it came to this aspect of the hobby and still is to this day.

Star Wars Legion has given my creative mind a big jolt mainly because the worlds and planets featured in the movies are just begging to be integrated into the modeling aspect of the hobby.

I have mainly been focusing on creating game boards to fight our battles over ( so far I have a desert, forest and Kessel board made) and to accompany them I have been basing my models accordingly.

Death Troopers are an elite variant of the Stormtroopers who are part of Imperial Intelligence. In Star Wars: Legion Death Troopers ar the fourth Special Forces choice for the empire and represent an elite strike force and shock troopers.

FFG: Preview the Imperial Death Troopers

With nearly limitless resources at its disposal, the Galactic Empire is capable of creating all kinds of unimaginable weapons. But not every problem can be eliminated with a single blast from the Death Star’s immense superlaser. Some missions require a more delicate touch. When high-ranking Imperial officers like Director Orson Krennic need a scalpel instead of a cudgel, they turn to the Imperial Death Troopers.

Trained in multiple forms of combat and proficient at erasing their involvement from operations, these elite soldiers are a terrifying sight to anyone unfortunate enough to stand in their way. You’ll soon be able to have your own squads of Death Troopers do your bidding on the battlefields of the Galactic Civil War with the Imperial Death Troopers Unit Expansion for Star Wars™: Legion.

Over the past few weeks we’ve gotten a wealth of future drops. Below are some speculated dates of when we should be seeing these drops dropping on store shelves. I should state that these dates are my speculation only and nothing official.

Speculation: DT-5537 is the named Death Trooper

Earlier today the Death Trooper expansion for Star Wars Legion was announced. Much like the Pathfinders expansion, there is an upgrade card with a pip next to a name meaning that this particular upgrade card is for a named character.

After a quick search on Wookieepedia you can find that there is one named Death Trooper from Rogue One.

DT-5537 was the designation of a humandeath trooper that was part of Unit TI-23. Having undergone advanced training at a camp on Scarif and received classified augmentations, DT-5537 was proficient in demolitions, improvised weaponry, and guerrilla tactics.
